Baby Dance at The Bridge, Southwark

Reconnect with your body, dance to great music with other parents, and move with your baby in a fun and supportive class designed to awaken creativity.

Over the course of a term, we explore developmental movement stages that babies go through and use these as inspiration to try different dance styles and movement games. The atmosphere is relaxed and social, always focussed on the wellbeing of you and your baby.

For pre-walking babies, suggested ages 2-12 months

Baby massage, paediatric first aid, weaning sessions in The Bridge Cafe, creative writing for parents, meditation and mindfulness, gym club, creche, perinatal mental health support? Send your ideas to julia@meandbaby.dance or tell me in person in the dance session.

The Bridge – Women’s Health and Wellbeing Centre

The Bridge centre is an inspiring community charity in central London, specialising in women’s health and wellbeing. After dancing, please stay for chat in their spacious café with plenty of space for buggies and delicious food and drinks. The building has step-free access throughout, a women only gym, and a beautiful studio space.

NB: At the moment, only women are allowed in the Studio space and therefore also in this particular Me&Baby Dance setting. Dads and male carers- please join us in the cafe instead, or for dancing in any of the other Me&Baby Dance venues.

It’s a short distance from Southwark, Bermondsey, Borough, Waterloo and London Bridge.

Facilitator: Julia Korning

I am a dance movement psychotherapist and I have two young daughters. I set up Me&Baby Dance together with my first baby, because I wanted to share my love for dance, music and movement. I needed a place for us to be creative and couldn’t find any other sessions that offered what Me&Baby Dance does – a chance to be a person in my own right, together with my baby, and dance with her and with other families together.

I found that parenting had made me stressed, worried about practicalities such as feed- and nap-times, isolated, and that it was hard to access my playful side. I therefore designed Me&Baby Dance to support connections – reconnecting to my own body after becoming a parent, connecting with my child, and connecting with other families, all through playful movement and dance. Over the years, it has brought me so much joy to dance with my children. It continues to melt my heart when I see parents connect with their babies, and I absolutely love my job.

As you might agree, it is usually easier to be playful and carefree when you are out of the home, in a space which you don’t have to tidy up, and with a structure to improvise around. This is what I provide in my sessions: a safe space for you to let go and just be present with your child. I’ll never force you or your child to behave in a certain way, or dance in a certain way. I provide a comforting structure, well-thought out and backed up my by experience as a dance therapist, for you to tune in to your body and dance with your child.
